The Scout Association is still a volunteer movement. It might interest you to know that none of the leaders are compensated for the time invested into running Scouting! Membership Fees (Subs) are a necessity to cover the running costs of each Explorer Scout unit, and the running costs of leader and support infrastructure in Andover district, Hampshire county, and nationally via the Scout Association.
If you are a new starter you get the first 2 months FREE so that you get a chance to visit and ensure Explorers is for you. When you join, the monthly payment also covers you to visit the YL & Award units we run!
Subs are paid by standing order for £7.50 per month into the Explorer bank account. This reduces our administration overhead and often helps families budget more easily. If you cannot pay by standing order then please speak to your leader for alternative arrangements.
We strongly believe we provide the best opportunities for young people to gain personal development, leadership, outdoor experiences and awards.
Membership fees contribute to the cost of:-
Annual Scout Association membership fee (around £30 per person per year)
The cost of our meeting hall (c. £8 per evening)
Scout badges and awards (c. 50p each)
Neckers and woggles at Investiture (c. £7 per Scout)
Registration for Duke of Edinburgh's Award (c. £6 each award)
- Explorer books and consumables used during the programme
